THE GEOMETRY OF CHANCE

HM-ART1164- Oil on canvas 80x60cm- Artist Marie Jeanne Amelynck (1930-2018)

This work reflects the fragile balance between destiny, calculation, and the unpredictability of human existence. The figure gazes beyond the visible horizon, suspended between contemplation and anticipation, while the billiard cue introduces the symbolic language of trajectory, precision, and consequence.

Like a billiard game, life unfolds through invisible angles, collisions, and reactions set in motion by even the smallest gesture. The luminous circular form surrounding the figure evokes both cosmic space and the larger systems within which human choices operate — systems that remain only partially understood.

The contrast between the ordinary object and the transcendent atmosphere creates a tension between earthly reality and existential reflection. The work ultimately becomes a meditation on direction itself:
how human beings attempt to navigate uncertainty,
measure consequence,
and find meaning within the unpredictable geometry of life.
