FIRST BE, THEN RELATE

HM-ART1156- Oil on canvas 80x100cm

Two figures exist within the same space, yet remain separated by distance, movement, and transformation.

One reaches outward while the other seems to emerge like a reflection, memory, or unfinished extension of the self.

The work explores the fragile tension between identity and connection. Before genuine intimacy can exist, there must first be self-awareness — a confrontation with one’s own presence, vulnerability, and fragmentation.

The painting suggests that relationships are not escapes from ourselves, but mirrors through which we become more visible.

To truly relate, one must first learn to be.
