DROWNING IN NOISE
HM-ART1165- Oil on canvas 80x100cm- ARTIST Marie Jeanne Amelynck- °1930-2018
This work explores the psychological weight of meaningless noise and the exhaustion created by constant external input. Surrounded by skeletal figures whispering, mocking, and intruding, the central figure becomes trapped between thought and overwhelm.
The skulls symbolize empty voices stripped of humanity — echoes of fear, judgment, media, expectation, and distraction. Their presence is ghostlike yet persistent, surrounding the individual until silence itself becomes unreachable.
Rather than depicting physical madness, the work reflects a modern emotional condition:
the slow erosion of inner peace beneath the relentless pressure of noise, opinion, and mental overstimulation.
